Brewing Responsibly
How we reduce our impact — from solar panels to bike couriers.
Energy
Solar Powered Brewing
In 2020 we started our solar energy project and come 2021 it was complete — solar panels on our flat roof in St Philip's provide electricity for the brewery and feed back into the grid. We have also invested in LED lights and timers throughout the brewery to cut power usage further.
Process
Unfined Since 2007
As pioneers of the unfined beer movement, we have been removing unnecessary ingredients and wastage from brewing since 2007. No isinglass finings, no animal products — we changed the rules and laid the groundwork for the hazy, vegan-friendly beers you enjoy today.
All of the carbonation in our beer is created by the yeast itself — live beer, naturally carbonated. We do not use excess CO2, and we are working on a project to capture and reuse the CO2 released during fermentation.
Packaging
Cans, Cornstarch & Cardboard
Cans over bottles. Cans are lighter than glass, reduce fuel usage, and use 90% less energy in recycling. Our cans are made from 50% recycled aluminium.
Cornstarch labels. More expensive than plastic, but recyclable with your can. Made from renewable sources with no toxic chemicals.
FSC certified cardboard. We reuse boxes in-house where possible and all final waste is recycled.
Community
Bike Couriers & Local Partnerships
Bristol bike delivery. We use Zedify bike couriers for local Bristol deliveries — zero emissions, delivered to your door.
Spent grain & hops. Farmer Jim collects our spent grain and hops every week for animal feed and fertiliser on his farm in nearby Somerset.
Too Good To Go. Surplus beer, dented and mislabelled cans are rescued by local customers through the Too Good To Go app.
